All About

Kateland Flock

Kateland Flock was established in 2015 where the first 8 pedigree suffolk sheep were brought. 3 in lamb and 5 shearlings (1 year olds) were brought. Over the next few years the flock grew by keeping the ewe lambs and expanding. As max my sheepdog got old enough for dog training the first Hebridean sheep were brought where I fell in love with the breed. The flock now sits at around 250-300 sheep in the summer around half suffolk/oxford mules and half pedigree hebrideans. In 2024 along with many rosettes the flock bred its first champion hebridean sheep who was shown across the county.

Hebridean Sheep

Hebridean sheep are just amazing animals. They naturally lamb outside and I have found they do better outside too. They eat all grasses not picky like the mules and are very low maintenance eating very little if at all any hard feed, They are natural survivors and the breed's motto is 'old breed, new times', which can t be truer with the cost of feed currently. They are even great for crossing too, I am trying that this year crossing Hebrideans with a Blue Faced Leicester tup. So far very happy with the results having 9 lambs out of 6 ewes, 6 of them being ewe lambs. Every year we sell the hebridean rams and some of the ewe lambs so keep an eye out at weaning time (july-august) for them for sale on our facebook page and in the sheep for sale section on the website.

Commercial Flock

Most of these are oxford cross suffolk producing bigger lambs and producing quality meat and ewe lambs. The oxford carries the good mothering and pleanty of milk while the suffolk carries the meatier carcasses. I do also have a pedigree line where i breed my own replacement oxford ewes so tups and ewe lambs are sometimes avaliable and will be advertised through the sheep for sale section on the website and on the facebook page.
