This product has taken a while in the making but happy to say its finally here and produced here in staffordshire!
It's avaliable in 3 sized tubs, 2.5ltr, 5ltr and a 10ltr.
Wool has always been a topic I feel very highly about as every year sheep have to be sheared for their welfare. If we don't they then get too wooley and cant regulate their own temprature and flystrike can happen. Shearing does not hurt the sheep, they have to sit in different positions moved into by the shearer to keep the skin tight so only the wool is cut. Shearing is over in a couple of minutes and they are on their way. It's is costily as its hard work and currenly wool is as good as worthless, it's litrally worth pence per sheep and we pay pounds per sheep to have them sheared. Most people dispose of there wool which such a shame as its such a valuable product if used correctily. Wool is fantastic on your gardens and alotments but for the normal family home wool is very difficult to handle. Its large and bulky and is full of lanolyn and small fibres making it itchy to handle. Last year i decided to do a lot of reserch in finding a way to make it accesable for everyone. The pellets are made by firstly shreading the wool into tiny pieces and is then put through a pelleting machine that compresses the wool into manageable pellets. Sometimes a small bit of straw is added to pellet better depending on the type/breed of wool. The pellets just need to be sprinkled around the plant and watered and they will spread out forming a mat around the plant (as seen on my strawberry plant). Below are the following benefits...
-
The pellets can hold 1 and a half times their weight in water. This helps keep plants hydrated especially during dry spells in the summer. Also keeps the soil warm in the winter. Pellets can also be put at the bottom of the pot to hold water for the roots.
-
They also suppress weed growth by making a barrier between the soil, sunlight and air.
-
They contain trace minerals which are essential to the plants health, like potassium, calcium, magnesium and nitrogen.
-
The pellets have a natural ability as a slug and snail repellent. Wool contains a natural oil called lanolin. This lanolin has a bitter taste and an unpleasant odour and texture to slugs and snails, making them avoid the plant.
-
They are also completely chemical free, which means they are safe to handle and not harmful to pets or wildlife.
-
Colours of the pellets may vary depending on the wool colours. e.g. Hebridean wool is black so those pellets come out black too. White wool will come out brown.
